It turns out that technology can have its caveats as was the case with the Tesla Autopilot technology. It has hardly been a smooth ride for Tesla, as reports of multiple car crashes including a fatal one, have made the rounds poising serious questions over the reliability of the autopilot technology.
The CEO of the company, Elon Musk has addressed these concerns promising that the Tesla autopilot technology will get a complete revamp for its version 8 in the near future. Musk also confirmed through a tweet that Bosch Global, the manufacturer of Tesla’s radar sensors, will be executing ‘significant improvements’ through a software upgrade.
It should be noted that the Autopilot car technology is still characterised as beta by the company, and will remain so, until a billion miles of driving data is completely scrutinised by Tesla. Against official recommendations, some cars are doing all the driving without an iota of driver supervision.
Tesla completely relies on the radars for sensing provided by Bosch Global for its autonomous car technology. The Autopilot Version 8 will be a dramatic improvement over the first version. This will enhance sensing of trailers and reduce blind spots of the radar. The release date of the new system isn’t revealed yet, but it is promised to be in the near future.
Never mind a few hiccups here and there, in Elon we should trust.
