Nissan has announced that Serena will be their first car to have the autonomous driving technology. The car is slated to be launched in Japan next month. In other markets, the Nissan Qashqai will be the first one to receive it.

The technology has been named ‘ProPilot’. It will help drivers in steering, brakes and acceleration features. According to the automaker, the technology will enhance driving comfort and convenience in Nissan Qashqai. The system mainly comprises of image processing software that controls a small camera to relay information about surrounding traffic, other vehicles as well as the lane markers.

The drivers will be given an option for activating this technology through a switch located on the steering wheel. Once the switch is set, the speed specified by the driver regulates the distance between their vehicle and the car ahead.  In case of any emergency, the brakes will be automatically applied and the vehicle can be brought to a complete stop depending upon the situation. The camera will be able to sense lane markers so to keep it in the middle of the lane through steering manipulation even on the curves.

Nissan has plans to introduce this technology in Europe next year before bringing the system to the Chinese and American markets.
