First it was Porsche with their Mission E electric car to rival with Tesla Motors and now Maserati is joining the league too. Sergio Marchionne, the CEO of FCA just told Bloomberg in an interview that a Maserati electric car may soon join the vehicle lineup.
The automaker revealed an electric car concept dubbed as Maserati Alfieri sports car at the 2014 Geneva Motor Show and might introduce this model sometime by 2018 or 2019.
In North American markets, the Fiat 500e is currently on sale; however, no electric car has been launched in the European markets yet. That’s the reason Fiat is considering building one for the region.
Marchionne also stated that the company will be launching a new hybrid version of the Maserati Levante SUV in the coming years.
Regarding the Maserati electric car, it is expected to be priced at $100,000 and will compete with the Tesla Model 3, which is currently priced at $70,000.
