The BMW M5 has been unveiled in its latest iteration, marking it as the most powerful yet heaviest M5 to date due to its hybrid powertrain. This new model features a twin-turbocharged 4.4-liter V-8 engine paired with an electric motor integrated into the eight-speed transmission, producing a combined output of 717 horsepower and 738 pound-feet of torque. The V-8 alone delivers 577 hp, while the electric motor contributes an additional 194 hp, powered by a 14.8 kWh hybrid battery.

The M5 can accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in 3.4 seconds, with a top speed capped at 155 mph, extendable to 190 mph with the M Driver’s Package. In Electric mode, it offers a quiet, battery-only range of 25 miles. The vehicle features multiple drive modes, including Comfort for efficiency, Sport and Sport Plus for performance, and optional Dynamic and Dynamic Plus for maximum power and track readiness. The Dynamic mode also enables rear-wheel drive by adjusting the xDrive all-wheel-drive system and turning off stability control for a more engaging driving experience. The electronically controlled differential lock optimizes power distribution, enhancing cornering performance, supported by active rear steering.

The M5’s braking system includes six-piston calipers on 16.1-inch discs at the front and single-piston floating calipers on 15.7-inch discs at the rear, with optional M Carbon ceramic brakes for better performance and reduced weight. The car sits on staggered wheels, 20 inches in the front and 21 inches at the back, as part of its specialized driveline setup, which includes a model-specific five-link rear axle and a double-wishbone front axle.

The M5’s chassis benefits from extra bracing, stronger mounts, and BMW‘s Adaptive M suspension with electronically controlled dampers. Drivers can fine-tune various aspects of the car, including suspension, brakes, steering, transmission, and all-wheel drive. The vehicle features BMW’s 8.5 operating system with M-specific displays, a standard heads-up display, and options for streaming videos and playing AirConsole games.

Visually, the M5 is distinguished by its quad exhaust tips, wider stance, redesigned sides, vented front fascia, and a subtle rear lip spoiler. It comes in nine standard colors with additional custom options available. Despite its substantial weight of 5,390 pounds, initial track testing has shown the M5 to perform exceptionally well. Starting at $120,675, the new M5 will be available for deliveries later this year, promising to offer both power and luxury to its drivers.
