The Lexus CT 200h gained a huge attention when it was launched back in 2011; however, it did not perform really well in the market and was able to fetch only 16,000 sales per year at max. Now the automaker is planning to replace it with a new sub-compact hybrid crossover, as crossovers are becoming sweet darlings for motorists.

Talking to Autocar, the head of Lexus Europe, Alain Uyttenhoven stated that the company is contemplating to build up 100,000 models per year for Europe to gain its market position. Since the Lexus CT is the top representative of automaker’s luxury car segment, it is logical to replace it with another vehicle due to its poor performance.

The new crossover will be positioned under the NX crossover, but will surely be larger than the LF-SA concept displayed at the Geneva Motor Show. Once launched, the new Lexus crossover will compete with the likes of Mercedes-Benz GLA class, BMW X1 and Audi Q3.
