The American automaker is planning to install GM start-stop feature on all its light weight models by 2020 in order to improve the fuel efficiency. The automaker further aims to introduce new innovations like nine and ten speed transmission systems, light weight construction materials, absorbent glass mat (AGM) batteries and tandem solenoid starters to increase the fuel economy of its cars.

The GM Start-Stop feature will cost about $300 only and will boost the fuel efficiency by six percent. The major automotive companies that build start-stop systems include Continental AG, Delphi Automotive, and Robert Bosch GmbH.

Talking to Autoblog, GM spokesman Tom Read stated that in the next two years, over 30 new models launched in North America will have the GM start-stop option. He also mentioned that the 2017 GMC Acadia and the Cadillac XT5 will feature the same technology. In 2015, the automaker announced to make start-stop system standard in the Impala sedan.
