Last year, the British automaker confirmed that a new Lotus Crossover will be introduced soon dubbed as “the world’s first lightweight SUV.” We have just come to know that the new Lotus Crossover will be produced at the company’s new Guangzhou factory in China.

Lotus chose the Guangzhou factory particularly due to the strong government support and facilities available in that region. Although the factory is still under construction, but the Guangzhou Development and Reform Commission deputy director, Wang Ke Si has confirmed that it will be fully functional by the end of this year.

The total cost of setting up the Guangzhou factory is $1.5-billion involving other major companies including Proton, Group Lotus and Goldstar Heavy Industrial. The factory will consist of a research and development centre, manufacturing facilities and a head office.

The Lotus Crossover will be launched in Asian markets sometime in 2019.
