In 2012, BMW-Toyota collaborated to share technologies and work that included lithium-ion batteries and powertrain sharing. One of the projects was to introduce a midsize sports car, which the automakers confirmed last year. But nothing else came to the scene afterwards.

However, now through Automotive News Europe we came to know that the roadster is still in the works and will be developed in Austria by Magna Steyr. BMW’s next generation Z4 which will probably be called Z5 along with the new Toyota Supra will arrive by 2018.

Even though the demand for roadsters is not high in the market, the BMW’s CEO Harold Krueger believes that this particular car segment holds a traditional value for the automaker. Moreover, Harold is also committed to introduce a replacement for the iconic BMW Z4.

The BMW-Toyota partnership will soon uncover more projects and introduce new sports cars in the future.
