Nissan’s Senior Vice-President Shiro Nakamura has shared company’s plans to include a new Nissan all-electric sports car and a hybrid crossover within the next 5 years. Their new platform is currently under development and will be able to extend conventional and alternative powertrains to expand company’s EV electric car range.
Nissan has always been interested in adding an all-electric sports car and has never shied away from its aspiration to broaden its electrified automobiles. In this regards, several electric car concepts have been introduced over the years including the Esflow and Townpod. The Esflow concept, displayed at the 2011 Geneva Motor Show, was a rear-wheel drive electric car offering a humble 107 bhp with speed accelerated to 100 kmh from scratch in 5 seconds.
Not much has come out of the Esflow concept since the debut, but Nakamura promises to deliver an all-electric sports car in the future. For now, the hybrid fuelled crossover seems to be the main focus of Nissan’s future automobile plans, as confirmed through its hybrid Gripz concept at the 2015 Frankfurt Motor Show.
The Nissan all-electric sports car designs and layout are currently under discussion among the scientists who are considering battery installation to make the ground clearance as low as possible. However, for the crossover, it won’t be an issue.
