The 2017 Audi R8 Spyder made its public debut at the 2016 New York Auto Show and surprised everyone with its impressive powertrain.

The Audi R8 Spyder carries the same 5.2L V10 powertrain as the standard model, but the output is highly enhanced. While the regular version produces 540 horsepower and 398 pound-feet of torque, the R8 Spyder can churn out a mighty 610 horsepower. Moreover, it is capable of going from zero to 62 mph in just 3.6 seconds with a top speed 197 mph.

The powertrain is mated to a 7-speed dual-clutch gearbox to power all the wheels, which can be changed according to driver’s input using the 4-way drive mode selector in the cockpit. Other interior features include smartphone integration, digital instrument cluster and MMI interface.

Besides the potent engine, the most commendable feature is the retractable roof that not only adds a sporty look to the 2017 Audi R8 Spyder, but is extremely light weight too. It takes only 20 seconds to fold.

The standard coupe model starts at $164,150, so we can expect this Spyder variant to cost slightly above that. The Audi R8 Spyder will launch sometime in the next year.
