The Toyohashi University of Technology in Japan has developed an intelligent way to ditch the battery installed in your electric vehicle and draw energy from the road you’re driving on.

So how does this technology work? The team of researchers installed special tyres with steel wires on the car and when it drives on the specialised electrified road, the tyres conduct energy required to power the vehicle.

After taking the first test drive on a 30 metre long course at a speed of 10 kph, Professor Takashi Ohira concluded, the “Acceleration was smooth, and the ride was comfortable.”

The disadvantage of this type of electric vehicle is that it can only operate on electrified roads. However, there are a lot of other things to consider, before taking this technology in the market and making it commercially available. For now, these electric vehicles are not a very effective solution.
