To follow the trend of developing a unique sports car, the Japanese automaker Subaru has also recently began working on a new mid engine sports car that could take the place of the popular BRZ coupe.
The report from Car and Driver suggests that this new sports car will most probably be a hybrid, all-wheel drive carrying a 1.6L turbo-charged engine mated with an electric motor and will be built on the company’s new Subaru Global Platform.
The hybrid drive system is inspired from the Viziv Future Concept SUV that was unveiled last year at the Tokyo Motor Show. However the drivetrain design would be flipped in the new mid engine sports car. The Viziv concept was equipped with one front mounted motor and two rear motors, while the new sports coupe will feature two electric motors on the front wheels and a single electric motor propelling the rear wheels.
It is expected that Subaru might launch a concept version first and then put this new sports car in the production line.
