Dubai has successfully marked it seventh annual Car Free Day as an environment friendly event on Sunday, encouraging people to use public transports in place of their vehicles to reach work places. Compared to last year’s 300 entities, this year saw a huge improvement in the numbers with more than 1,000 entities including government, semi government and private organisations participating in the event. In fact, every year, more people are excited and drawn to participate in the Dubai’s car free day. The event started back in 2010, when only a paltry 1,000 individuals participated.
The event was organised under the sponsorship of Shaikh Hamdan Bin Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Chairman Dubai Executive Council and Crown Prince of Dubai in coordination with Hussain Nasser Lootah, Director General Dubai Municipality. Dubai Municipality plans to introduce specific car free areas in Dubai each year to finally reach an entire car free day.
The event also exhibited a large display of environment friendly vehicles equipped with solar or electric fuel resources, but still boasting the latest technology installations and practices. Dubai is the city’s proof to the international environmental agreements aiming to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
