The German automaker has announced that the BMW M2 would serve as a new safety car for the 2016 MotoGP season. However, to serve the required duty it has to undergo some modifications, which were done at BMW M factory, including the use of carbon fibre for improved aerodynamics, electronic gear and roof-mounted light bar. No changes have been made to the twin turbo charged 3.0L engine that delivers 365hp and 343 lb-ft torque. The event will be organised by Dorna Sports.
The 2016 BMW M2 is influenced from the successful BMW 1M coupe safety car and boasts striking livery colours of BMW Motorsport with golden wheels to complete its exterior style details.
The company has a long association with MotoGP family, dating back to 1999, and has recently extended their cooperation with Dorna Sports, event organizers up to 2020.
2016 MotoGP season will kick off from March 20th at the Losail International Circuit in Doha, Qatar, and would feature 2016 BMW M2 safety car for the first time. The standard M2 on the other hand is priced at $52,695 and will be available for sale in April.
