The Honda Civic Type R is known to be the ultimate performance version of the Civic family. For the first time in the history of Honda, any Honda car has pushed its way to the final of World Performance Car of the Year award 2016. The fierce competition is fueled by other nominations including Audi R8 Coupe, Chevrolet Camaro, Mercedes-AMG C 63 Coupe, and Range Rover Sport SVR in the World Performance Car category.
A jury of 73 international automotive journalists from 23 different nations will vote for the winners in respective categories for the World Car of the Year awards 2016. The winner for World Performance Car of the Year award 2016 will be declared at New York Auto Show on March 24.
Mike Rutherford, the World Car Awards Director and Vice-Chairman, commented, “With the comparatively affordable and accessible Civic Type R, Honda has taken on all of the specialist performance car manufacturers – and, on this occasion, beaten the majority of them at their own game by qualifying as a World Car Awards finalist. The company is now one of only five firms in the running for the coveted World Performance Car title.”
The new Civic Type R carries the most extreme and high-performing power unit in the legacy of 22 years of Type R Civics. The turbocharged 2.0 litre VTEC unit gives power, torque and matchless performance in its comparative section. Peak power output is 310 PS at 6,500 rpm, and peak torque is 400 Nm at 2,500 rpm – both better than any of the preceding Honda Type R models. Many useful upgrades inside also strengthen the Type R’s sport nature and touch.
