Toyota has topped the sales chart of 2015 for the fourth year in a row beating Volkswagen and General Motors. The world’s biggest automaker sold 10.15 million vehicles which are slightly lower than the 2014 sales of 10.23 million. Furthermore, Volkswagen stood second by selling 9.93 million vehicles followed by General Motors which posted 9.8 million sales. The fourth and fifth positions are taken by Renault Nissan (8.22 million) and Hyundai Kia (8.01 million) respectively.

I believe Toyota has been extremely lucky topping the sales chart of 2015 and winning the world’s biggest automakers award this year. If Volkswagen would not have been inflicted by the Diesel emissions cheating scandal, the results would have been a lot different for sure. Though the German automaker managed to get the second spot, this year poses greater challengers to even maintain this position. The diesel scandal is not over yet, and sales in Russia and China are declining day by day.

Toyota has a lot in the tank which might enable them to top the sales chart of 2016. However, nothing can be said for sure until we reach the last quarter of the year with plenty of data in our hands to make a genuine guess.
