Flouting to switch off engine at a fuel filling station is a common practice among motorists in Oman, despite being reported and fined for it by ROP. Some customers don’t even like to be told about turning their engines off. A random survey conducted on three different fuel marketing companies in Oman reports:

  • 4 out of 48 cars turned their engine off at Qurm Station
  • 1 out of 10 cars turned their engine off at Amerat Station
  • Zero out of 8 cars switched the engine off at the Ghubra Station

According to an official from Oman Oil Marketing Company, the problem occurs due to a cultural perception and has to be changed despite customers’ objection and rigid behaviour. He further added that the company has put in different marketing practices including social media marketing to educate customers about the safety practices and standards at the fuel filling stations. It is highly essential to switch off engine at fuel filling station.
