It seems that Devel Sixteen Hypercar might become a reality, contrary to what most people thought on its unveiling at Dubai Motor Show 2013. The automaker claimed the quad-turbo V16 engine could generate an insane horsepower of 5,000. Back then it was easy to dismiss such a claim since this feat seemed quite impossible to achieve.
Fast forward to year 2015, Steve Morris Engines has been working to develop the Devel Sixteen engine for the past year and a half. The company has also released a video where the V16 engine is being tested on the dyno. What we see are stunning figures, engine hitting a horsepower of 4,515 at 6,900 rpm with 30psi boost injected. The boost when brought down to 20psi still manages to hit a staggering horsepower of 3,006. With these performance figures, we can expect the car to accelerate from 0-62 mph in mere 1.8 seconds with a top speed of 348 mph
Though car enthusiasts may be a bit disappointed as the test falls short of 5,000 horsepower claim, however Alex Esnaola (representative from Steve Morris Engines) hints at further development. With that being said, we have our doubts about Devel Sixteen Hypercar hitting the production lines, as it will require time to develop a transmission mechanism to stabilize this car on the roads.
