Auto giant General Motors will be starting sales of its Chinese-made Buick Envision in the US by early 2016 in a move that might be replicated by other automakers if the US market shows acceptability of Chinese-made vehicles.
The Buick Envision was launched in 2014 to counter small crossovers like the Acura RDX and the Infiniti EX. The Buick Envision currently marketed in China has a 2.0 litre four-cylinder engine which churns out 260 horsepower enabling to complete 0-62 mph sprint in 8.4 seconds.
The interior has a spacious look compared to other vehicles of this size thanks to a large sunroof and an active noise-cancelling system adds to the comfort of the ride.
GM plans to start off with 30-40,000 vehicles in the first phase as no other company has successfully sold large volumes of Chinese-made vehicles to the discerning US market. Ford is highly likely to follow suit with its Taurus should the Buick Envision hit it off.
