The SP:01 by Detroit Electric is ready for production at the company’s facility in Leamington Spa, UK. The much awaited 100% electric sports car will be launched in Europe and some parts of Asia by the end of this year.
First unveiled at the 2013 Shanghai Motor Show, the SP:01 is dubbed as the world’s fastest production electric sports car. The optimization of the exterior design using CFD (computational fluid dynamics) analysis will provide maximum performance and stability. The special aerodynamic exterior, coupled with a 210 KW electric motor, purpose designed battery pack and the light weight carbon fibre body, gives the SP:01 an excellent power to weight ratio and 0-60 mph in 3.7 seconds with a potential 155 mph top speed.
The vehicle also features “SAMI”, a Smartphone Application Managed Infotainment system, which gives the driver accessibility to a range of digital devices from music players to system status updates such as battery level. SAMI also extends remote vehicle location and climate control features.
Detroit Electric was a pioneer of electric cars in the early 20th century. The company owes its current revival to Albert Lam, former Group CEO of Lotus Engineering Group and Executive Director of Lotus Cars, England.
