The latest additions to the Dubai Taxi fleet are 80 hybrid Toyota Camry cars bringing the total number of hybrid vehicles in the fleet to 145. The action is in line with Dubai Taxi Corporation’s plan to support RTA’s strategic goal “Safety, Environmental Sustainability, and Supporting the Green Economy”.

According to Dr. Yousef Al Ali, CEO of DTC, the initiative is in line with the UAE’s green power policies which will work towards raising Dubai’s profile in the area of environmental protection. He said that adding 80 hybrid Toyota Camry cars “…signals the joint commitment of RTA & DTC to conserve lives, properties, environment and natural resources as well as improving the occupational health and public safety, and introducing technologies to curb carbon emissions from transportation means”.

The initiative is the first of its kind in the region and has been in the works since 2012 when 10 hybrid vehicles were added onto the fleet as a trial, followed by 20 additions in the next year. DTC calculated the fuel consumption and found out 25.41 litres per car per day fuel saving, thus decreasing expenses by more than AED 54 per day for a car.
