Automakers have to quit producing certain car models due to long delays and low sales in the highly competitive global market. That’s what one would expect when Mitsubishi announced to skip the production of 2016 Mitsubishi Mirage; however facts are different this time.

Mitsubishi did exclude the next year for smart subcompact Mirage, but according to the company, the model will resume production a year after. This makes one curious what the company is cooking at this point? Perhaps, this strategy has been finalised assuming the ‘not so flourishing success’ of the 2015 model, which has somewhat become a fit on the dealerships. The halt on 2016 Mitsubishi Mirage will buy the company sometime to make the necessary improvements.

Thankfully, reports say that an early 2017 Mirage hatchback with upgraded powertrain and chassis will be rolled out this spring, along with a 4 door sedan variant. The car enthusiasts will soon welcome the 2017 Mirage sedan, which will be also offered in the US along other markets.

So, Mirage will become the first car to skip a year and survive discontinuation. Among the recent massacre, the Nissan’s Xterra SUV will die in 2015, while Toyota is also killing the production of FJ Cruiser.
