Stopping at traffic signals is something we don’t like for 2 main reasons; it is time consuming and also the time spent waiting at the red lights burns a great amount of gasoline, which is also bad for environment.
Fortunately, the German automaker, BMW has realised the importance of this issue and has come up with a new EnLighten App that is designed to predict the light change at traffic signals. The basic functions of this app is to display the status of the signal; whether it is red or green plus the countdown is also shown showing when the signal will change. The app also calculates the current speed of the car, and based on the location and the traffic signal, it notifies drivers whether they should stop for a light or race to beat it. Moreover, it also notifies drivers if they are approaching a traffic light that is about to change. If a driver intends to take a turn, the app will evaluate the suitable parameters.
The EnLighten app is developed by Connected Signals and is available for both Android and iOS. The drivers will have to download it on their phone, however it runs through the iDrive infotainment system installed in the BMW.
Seeing all the features, the app will surely save the time stopping at traffic signals, thereby improving fuel efficiency and the traffic position of a city.
It is currently available only in limited places including Eugene and Portland in the state of Oregon; Salt Lake City in Utah; Las Vegas, Arcadia and Walnut Creek in California; and also in Christchurch, New Zealand.
