‘Driving Selfie’ is a new craze whereby drivers take their pictures while driving. According to a latest research conducted by the Institute of Advanced Motorists in Britain, in last month alone, 1/10 drivers in UK alone took their pictures as driving their vehicles. This ratio jumps higher to 15% when we take into account drivers aged between 18-24. Moreover, individuals aging 25-35 have admittedly confessed of taking driving selfies.
The statistics also suggest that men are readily disposed to this risky feat with more than twice as much incidences of driving selfies as compared to women. More alarmingly, 8% people have also admitted using video-calling apps like FaceTime and Skype during the drive, while 7% drivers confessed that they watch live TV and internet videos as well.
Around 3,154 people have been died due to distracted driving accidents, according to 2013 NHTSA report. Selfies is one great driving distraction, therefore drivers are advised to avoid taking pictures while driving.
