Ford has introduced the one-off Mustang Apollo Edition ahead of its debut at this year’s edition of the Experimental Aircraft Association (EAA) AirVenture fly-in that will take place in Oshkosh, Wisconsin, later this month.
As its name implies, the Mustang Apollo is loosely inspired by NASA’s Apollo Program. It stands out from the 2015 Mustang on which it is based thanks to a prominent splitter up front, red mirror caps, a large wing out back, specific alloy wheels and a two-tone black and white paint job with red accents. “United States” decals on the hood and the front fenders add a finishing touch to the NASA-inspired look.
Interior pictures have not been published yet, but Ford’s brief teaser video reveals the Apollo Edition boasts Apollo logos embroidered into the seat backs. Similarly, technical details are being kept under wraps for the time being.
Ford has donated the custom-built Mustang to the EAA, and the coupe is scheduled to cross the auction block at the Gathering of Eagles gala that will take place during the AirVenture show. An auction estimate was not provided, but the selling price will likely be high because the proceeds from the sale will help fund the organization’s year-round youth aviation programs.
