BMW has finally raised the curtains off its 6th generation 7 series line up, which has set the bar higher for other luxury sedans in the market. The new 7 series features some amazingly advanced high tech equipment and a significant reduction in the body weight.
Keeping the i8 in mind, the new 7 series body structure is made from Carbon Core, which is basically a mixture of carbon fibre plastic and high strength steel and helps reduce the overall weight by nearly 200 pounds. The 50-50 weight distribution, achieved from this, will greatly improve the car’s performance.
Talking about the technological equipment installed inside the 7 series, the new iDrive system with a touch display now also features a controller knob and a 3D sensor for gesture controls, which is capable of understanding hand gestures and follow the commands.
A self-park feature is also available, though the driver has to be inside the car while the car tries to park itself, nevertheless this is a ground breaking innovation by the German automaker.
Moreover, it extends a GPS based transmission system, which can also be found on other luxury cars.
In the US, two variants will be available, the 740i carrying a 3-litre twin power inline six cylinder engine and the 750i xDrive housing a 4.4-litre twin turbo V8 engine.
The starting price of 740i will be around $81,300, while the 750i will carry a price tag of $97,400.
