Chinese automotive manufacturer, Geely, is currently working on a plan to construct a crossover SUV by late 2016 and to ultimately sell it to consumers in the European and American markets. The car, which is yet to be named and is being developed with Volvo, will first be promoted in the Chinese market in the early 2017, followed by Europe around a year later and then finally the U.S. The countries to be targeted for promotion and distribution currently include Spain, Portugal, Italy, Britain and Eastern Europe. Geely plans to unveil the car at next year’s Geneva or Beijing Auto Show.
The company plans on launching different variants for different markets so as to effectively cater to the needs of each. In China, the company plans to sell a gasoline-engine version with a couple of other fuel variants, including plug-ins. For Europe, the car will initially be a plug-in hybrid version. The car itself will comprise of an engine technology that Zhejiang Geely Holding Group developed in collaboration with Volvo Cars.
