In-line with Toyota’s environmental contributions to a low-carbon society, Al-Futtaim Motors, exclusive distributor of Toyota in the UAE, has expanded its alternative fuel vehicles offerings, culminating in an agreement with Dubai Municipality that will see the organization take hold of a total of three Toyota Prius Plug-in Hybrid cars that will be used and evaluated for future wide-scale deployment.

The handover, which took place at the 17th Water, Energy, Technology, and Environment Exhibition (WETEX), was attended by Alan Carpenter, General Manager, Sales & Marketing, Al-Futtaim Motors – Toyota, as well as Humaid Saeed Almarri, Director of Transportation Department, Dubai Municipality.
“The Toyota Prius Plug-in Hybrid will be used exclusively by Dubai Municipality in their effort to create a greener community. Using our expertise and unrivalled technology that is part of every Toyota hybrid, we will work closely with Dubai Municipality to make an impact on emissions and change the face of transport in the Emirate while contributing to the UAE’s green agenda,” said Carpenter.

“Al-Futtaim Motors prides itself on being the representative to the world’s leader in hybrid technology and WETEX is the perfect platform for us to introduce Toyota’s green technology to the UAE market. Today we present the latest incarnation of the Toyota Prius Plug-In Hybrid to Dubai Municipality,” he continued.

This year marks the 60th anniversary since the establishment of Al-Futtaim Motors. For six decades, the company has engrained itself as part of the fabric of the nation, becoming one of the country’s leading businesses and a driving force behind the development of the automotive industry in the country.

As part of its celebrations, the company is displaying a 1966 Toyota Corolla at WETEX, along with a showcase of the future of Toyota’s hybrid vehicles with the Toyota Camry Hybrid, Toyota Prius Plug-in Hybrid and Toyota Prius cut-body, vehicles that Al-Futtaim Motors sees as contributing to a greener future for mobility in the UAE.

The Prius Plug-in Hybrid works just like a Prius Hybrid but with an extended electric driving range for enhanced fuel efficiency. With a fully charged battery, Prius Plug-in Hybrid can provide up to an EPA-rated 95 MPGe3 in EV Mode.

Globally, cumulative Toyota hybrid vehicles sales have surpassed 7 million, resulting in approximately 49 million fewer tons* of CO2 emissions—believed to be a cause of global warming—than would have been emitted by gasoline-powered vehicles of similar size and driving performance. Toyota also estimates that its hybrid vehicles have saved approximately 18 million kiloliters of gasoline compared to the amount used by gasoline-powered vehicles of similar sizes.

The 17th Water, Energy, Technology, and Environment Exhibition (WETEX) is being held from April 21 to 23, 2015, at Dubai International Convention & Exhibition Centre.
