Citroën has published a full set of details about the updated 2015 C4, a compact hatchback that squares off against the Volkswagen Golf and the Ford Focus.

The bulk of the upgrades are found under the hood, where the C4 benefits from new engines that comply with the strict Euro 6 emissions norms. The headline-grabber is a 1.2-liter turbocharged three-cylinder gas-burning mill that generates 130 horsepower at 5,500 rpms and 169 lb-ft. of torque at 1,750 rpms. Linked to a six-speed manual transmission, the turbo three sends the C4 from zero to 100 kmph in 10.8 seconds.

C4 Buyers looking for a more efficient gas-burner can opt for a 110-horsepower version of the aforementioned Puretech three-cylinder. The range of diesel engines includes a 1.6-liter four available with either 100 or 120 ponies.

Inside, the C4 gets a cleaner-looking cockpit thanks to a new seven-inch touch screen that runs the latest generation of Citroën’s infotainment system. The list of options now includes hill start assist, Citroën’s intelligent traction control, a lane departure warning system and a blind spot monitoring system.

The visual updates are minor and largely limited to new lights on both ends and a redesigned front bumper. The usual assortment of new paint colors and wheel designs round out the changes for the new year.
