After revealing the lightest-ever F-Type, the Project 7 convertible, Jaguar engineers are reportedly working to shave even more weight from the model.
The company’s newly formed Special Vehicle Operations division is said to be looking to the nixed C-X75 concept for lightweight inspiration. The supercar concept centered around a 1.6-liter four-cylinder engine that revved to 10,000 rpm, pairing a turbocharger and a supercharger to provide 500 horsepower.
“We designed that engine for a £1 million supercar, so it’s extremely expensive” SVO director Paul Newson told Auto Express. “But it could work well. The world is downsizing with high-pressure engines.”
The Project 7 build is still powered by a 5.0-liter V8 mill, sending 566 ponies and 501 lb-ft of torque to the rear wheels. The company slashed more than 175 pounds off the standard F-Type curb weight to further improve the power-to-weight ratio, promising a 0-to-60 mph sprint in just 3.8 seconds and a top speed of 186 mph.
The company’s SVO division is already said to be working on at least three more special projects, likely including both Jaguar and Land Rover models, which are expected to be revealed sometime next year.
