Honda is set to release its second electric vehicle (EV) model in Europe this year, known as the e:Ny1. In an attempt to differentiate it from the HR-V EV, Honda insists that the e:Ny1 is an entirely distinct vehicle. However, those familiar with China’s electric vehicle market will identify its similarities to the Honda e:NS1/e:NP1, which is sold there.
Despite these similarities, Honda plans to introduce a new option that caters to a wider audience, presenting an alternative to the Honda e urban vehicle, capitalizing on the rising demand for all-electric B-segment SUVs.
The e:Ny1 boasts impressive features. Built on the e:N Architecture F front-motor-driven architecture, this subcompact EV is equipped with a 68.8-kilowatt-hour lithium-ion battery pack, providing a range of 256 miles (412 kilometers) according to the WLTP cycle.
Honda claims that the battery can charge from 10 to 80 percent in just 45 minutes using DC fast charging. The vehicle’s power drive unit, electric motor, and gearbox combination create 201 horsepower (150 kilowatts) and 228 pound-feet (310 Newton-metres) of torque.
According to Tom Gardner, Senior Vice President at Honda Motor Europe Ltd, “The e:Ny1 represents the natural progression of our efforts towards electric mobility in Europe. Our approach revolves around incorporating smart, customer-focused innovations complemented by captivating aesthetics and an exhilarating driving experience. This new SUV showcases Honda’s dedication to embracing electric power and marks another significant milestone on our path to electrification.”
Honda emphasizes that the e:Ny1 features an all-new chassis particularly designed for EVs, enhancing torsional rigidity and ensuring trademark Honda dynamics, responsive driving, and premium ride comfort.
In terms of styling, the Honda e:Ny1 closely resembles its Chinese counterparts, with minor additions like white “H” badges adorning various parts of the vehicle. Inside, notable highlights include a new center console with physical buttons, ample storage options, wireless charging, and a large 15.1-inch touchscreen.
The Honda e:Ny1 is expected to arrive in Europe in a few months, with pricing yet to be announced. Reports from UK media suggest a starting price of around $37,500 (30,000 pounds) for the electric crossover. It will enter the market alongside competitors such as the Peugeot e-2008, Jeep Avenger, Hyundai Kona Electric, Kia Niro EV, and similar EVs in its size category.
