In 2020, the arrival of the Mercedes-Benz GLB-class brought forth a vehicle that aptly filled the void between the subcompact GLA and the compact GLC. The GLB-class further boasted of being the most petite sport utility vehicle (SUV) in the market to provide a third row of seats, albeit best suited for children. For the 2024 model year, the GLB is set to undergo a minor but impactful facelift, which will encompass a plethora of changes such as updated infotainment, minor styling tweaks, and an electrified engine lineup.

Exterior

The enhancements are not overtly conspicuous on a visual scale, as the front bumper and grille have undergone subtle revisions, while the headlights and taillights feature sharper LED graphics. Additionally, the GLB-class will be equipped with new 18- and 20-inch wheels alongside a Spectral Blue metallic paint option.

Interior

For starters, the premium package, which previously accommodated two 10.3-inch screens, has now become a standard feature, effectively replacing the 7.0-inch screens found on the 2023 base model. As a result of this sizable upgrade, the GLB-class now operates using the latest version of the illustrious Mercedes MBUX infotainment system, which is compatible with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Further, an additional USB-C port and a boosted USB charging power have been added, all aimed at providing convenience to the driver and passengers alike.

To up the ante, Mercedes has thrown in more standard facilities, including automatic high beams, as well as a parking package that brings with it a 360-degree camera view. And if that wasn’t enough, a Nappa leather steering wheel has been added as a standard feature. For the first time, the GLB-class can also offer a heated steering wheel with the AMG Line package, a testament to the attention to detail that has gone into creating this modern masterpiece.

Powertrain

The turbocharged 2.0-litre inline-four has now received a 48-volt hybrid system that is designed to optimise its performance. The belt-driven starter generator is the star of this show, as it provides an additional 13 horsepower in certain situations, enabling the vehicle to accelerate effortlessly or coast with the engine off. This setup also plays a pivotal role in smoothing the start/stop system. While simultaneously regaining kinetic energy during braking, the GLB’s 48-volt hybrid system efficiently replenishes both the 48-volt and 12-volt batteries. The peak power, however, remains unchanged, as the GLB-class retains its impressive 221 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque.

Moving on to the sportier variant, the Mercedes-AMG GLB35 has received similar revisions for the 2024 model year. It now flaunts an array of exciting upgrades, including fresh exterior lights that catch the eye, an updated AMG Performance steering wheel that elevates driving pleasure, and the same perks in terms of infotainment and phone connectivity that make it a truly modern vehicle. With the turbo 2.0-litre four-pot continuing to churn out a power of 302 horses and 295 pound-feet of torque, the AMG GLB35 also receives the 48-volt hybrid system, along with the same 13-hp boost. Moreover, it offers new 19- and 20-inch wheel designs to choose from, adding to its already-impressive persona.

Price

It is worth noting that the 2024 GLB-class is slated to reach showrooms later this year, and we anticipate a marginal bump over the current GLB250’s base price of $40,950 and the GLB35’s price tag of $52,650.
