Honda has announced it will unveil the Civic Type R Concept at next month’s Geneva Motor Show. Official details are being kept under wraps until the car’s formal debut but an official teaser sketch gives us a good idea of what to expect when the hot hatch bows.

Designed to preview the upcoming Civic Type R, the show car will boast an aggressive body kit consisting of a front splitter, fender flares on all four corners, quad exhaust pipes and a large rear spoiler. The interior will undoubtedly gain race-inspired bits such as extra gauges, Type R-specific trim and bucket seats.

The concept will be powered by a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder VTEC engine that will send 280 horsepower to the front wheels, an increase of about 80 ponies over the last Type R. Honda says the engine is fully compliant with the strict Euro 6 emission norms that will come into effect across the European Union in September of next year.

Brembo brakes all around, low-profile tires and a lowered, track-tuned suspension will keep the cavalry in check.

A full set of details about the Honda Civic Type R Concept will emerge in the days leading up to its debut in Switzerland.

What’s next?

Expected to land in showrooms in 2015, the production variant of the Type R Concept will be based on the European-spec Civic and it may not be sold in the GCC, where the range-topping offering will remain the 201-horsepower Civic Si. The car could debut next October at the Paris Motor Show.
