Out of all the production models that debuted or launched in 2022, about half of them were made by Chinese car makers. This year we have seen 131 new cars excluding rebadged, facelifts, and concept cars, and out of these, 47% were made by Chinese automakers.

Statistics reveal 62 new entrants in the automotive market from China this year, implying five new cars every month. SAIC remained the top manufacturer, with 10 new models presented to the public, followed by eight models from Geely and six from Great Wall.

Out of China, Toyota produced the most automobiles this year, with 11 new introductions for consumers. These comprise 4 utility vehicles, 3 sedans, 3 multipurpose vehicles, and one city car. The Japanese automaker launched the same number of models last year. The count here includes all the brands (Toyota itself, Lexus, and Daihatsu) under the Toyota Automotive Group.

Speaking of new models from other automakers, SAIC introduced six utility vehicles, two sedans, one hatchback, and one multipurpose vehicle. GM also launched ten new models, coming from Buick, Cadillac, Chevrolet, and GMCHonda came with eight new vehicles, including the new generation of Pilot, CR-V, and Accord.

From Europe, Stellantis came with the highest number of introductions comprising Alfa Romeo Tonale, Citroen C4 X, Fiat Fastback, Jeep Avenger, Maserati Grecale, Peugeot 408, and more. The latest Maserati GranTurismo isn’t a part of the new launches because the interior details are still a mystery.

VW brought six new models, including one Audi model for Chinese customers, the Skoda Enyaq Coupé, two Volkswagen models for China, the latest Amarok, and ID.Buzz. Moving ahead, we have got four new vehicles from BMW and Mercedes-Benz and three each from Suzuki, Ford, and Hyundai.

Unsurprisingly, SUVs dominated the new debuts list in 2022, covering 51 percent of all the new introductions. Most of the SUVs came from SAIC, Geely, Honda, and Stellantis. The second most unveilings are for the sedans, thanks to the high demand in China. Out of 23 new sedans, twelve are launched for China only. Interestingly, we witnessed 16 new MPVs this year despite a drop in sales of minivans in major markets like Europe and the USA.

Completing the new cars production list, we got eight city cars, seven pickups, six sedans, and four sports cars in 2022.
