The BYD Atto 3, also called the BYD Yuan Plus in China, is gaining a lot of attention thanks to its good looks and excellent battery range. Last month, the automaker sold about 30,000 units.

The C-segment crossover/SUV is accessible in many countries, including Australia, and might soon arrive in Europe and Japan. According to a test drive done by Bjørn Nyland in Thailand, it is an excellent battery-powered vehicle.

Here we will specifically talk about range test outcomes with the 60.48 kWh battery, which should deliver 420 km (261 miles) or 320 km (199 miles) on the WLTP cycle with the 49.92 kWh battery version.

The test revealed that the crossover EV could do better than what the WLTP suggests at a temperature of 25°C. The tester drove at 90 km/h (56 mph) and found the average energy use was 134 Wh/km (216 Wh/mile). If we compare it with the predicted functional battery capacity of 59.6 kWh, we will get up to 445 km (277 miles), which is fairly similar to other battery electric cars in the segment.

Bjørn Nyland couldn’t examine the BYD Atto 3’s range at 120 km/h, so that’s not a complete test. For full results, we might have to wait for another test in Norway.

Whatever that result may be, this initial test shows that Atto 3 is a very solid BEV. It also lately secured a 5-star safety score from Euro NCAP, so it has all the ingredients that could give tough time to other electric vehicles on the market.

Having the Atto 3 in Gulf would be a welcome addition to our market.
