The 2023 Mercedes-AMG S 63 E Performance is a new PHEV, which happens to be the most muscular sport sedan from the German marque. It uses a 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 and an electric motor to produce a whopping 791 horsepower (590 kilowatts) and 1,055 pound-feet (1,430 Newton-meters). The twin-turbo engine mates to a nine-speed automatic, powering all the wheels.

With this power, the sedan can sprint from 0 to 60 miles per hour (96 kilometers per hour) in around 3.2 seconds. Customers in America get the standard AMG Driver’s Package allowing the car to hit 180 mph (290 kph) top speed. However, European customers can only enjoy 155 mph top speed and have to pay extra for this package.

Dividing the power output, the twin-turbo V8 generates up to 603 hp (450 kW) from 5,500 to 6,500 rpm and 664 lb-ft (900 Nm) between 2,500 and 4,500 rpm. The electric motor offers a constant 94 hp (70 kW) and a maximum of 188 hp for 10-second intervals. The motor gets juice from a 13.1-kilowatt-hour battery and is fixed on the rear axle to power the rear wheels.

The German automaker didn’t tell us the all-electric range of the performance S Class but did mention that the focus is on quick power instead of extended electric range.

The new AMG S 63 E Performance employs an adaptive air suspension that is proficient in lowering its stance by 0.4 inches (1.02 centimeters) at a velocity over 75 mph (121 kph). The active roll stabilization minimizes body roll while cornering. The sporty sedan’s active engine mounts can soften or toughen the link between the V8 and the body, as per the driving circumstances.

The automaker toughens the vehicle’s structure by installing an aluminum stabilizer beneath the V8 and a cross-brace for the suspension fixing points. Diagonal aluminum struts at the rear perform the same task.

There are 15.7-inch disks with six-piston calipers on the front and 15-inch with single-piston stoppers at the rear. Ceramic-composite brakes are available.

The performance sedan looks more aggressive than its regular sibling, with a range of vertical louvers on the grille and an AMG sign finished in chrome and black. The rear has four trapezoidal exhaust tips and a diffuser. The comfortable four-seat interior welcomes the MBUX infotainment system, a head-up display, and so much more.
