XPeng Aeroht managed the first public flight of their electric flying vehicle at Skydive Dubai recently. Called the XPeng X2, the flying vehicle flew after finishing certain operations risk assessments and receiving a flying license from the Dubai Civil Aviation Authority (DCAA).

More than 150 people watched the flying demonstration, which was a part of the GITEX Global tech show, being held at the Dubai World Trade Centre.

The participant and the DCAA officials applauded the XPeng X2’s stability and flight operation. As the video shows, the X2 flew up the ground and remained several feet high in the air for some time, just like a drone.

XPeng Aeroht is a Chinese company that calls itself the biggest flying vehicle firm in Asia. The XPeng X2 is a two-seat vehicle aimed at flying at a low altitude in the city and covering short distances, mainly for sightseeing, medical emergencies, etc. The company gave it a simple teardrop-molded design for improved aerodynamics.

“XPENG X2’s public display in Dubai represents a significant milestone for XPENG AEROHT and the international achievement of flying cars. Dubai is a world-renowned ‘City of Innovation’, which is the reason we decided to hold the X2 first public flight event here. Today’s flight is a major step in XPENG’s exploration of future mobility,” said Brian Gu, Vice Chairman and President of XPeng.

The XPeng X2 can be driven manually or automatically. The latter just allows the flying car to start, return and land with the push of a button.

Of note, the XPeng X2 shown during the show is a fifth-generation model. The automaker is presently creating the sixth-generation model with lots of improvements. The new flying taxi will not only be able to fly in the air but will also be capable of on-road driving.

XPeng Aeroht intends to offer details of the sixth-generation Xpeng X2 at the 1024 XPeng Tech Day on October 24, 2022.
