Toyota has revealed the next member of the BZ family through images posted on China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology website. Named the BZ3, it is one of the 30 electric vehicles Toyota and Lexus plan to build, according to the conceptual models they had shown in December 2021 during an event. The BZ3 was displayed as the BZ SDN concept at the event.
Toyota BZ3 Preview
Exterior
Seeing the images, we can clearly tell that the new Toyota BZ3 EV takes design cues from the Bz4X compact crossover, the first vehicle in the BZ class. The similarities with big brother include a visor-comparable front and geometric-shaped character lines.
Interior
Unfortunately, only exterior images were revealed, so we can’t give you exact details of the interior. However, we believe the interior will also match the Bz4X. It means expect the new compact sedan to come loaded with a digital instrument cluster and a big, landscape-shaped infotainment display. A yoke-shaped steering wheel would also be a part of the package along with the conventional steering wheel for Chinese customers, similar to what they get in the Bz4X.
BZ3 Specs
While Toyota didn’t reveal much along with the photos, they did mention that the new EV will be about 186 inches long, which is a little over an inch lengthier than the Model 3. The BZ3 will come with a single motor, rear-wheel drivetrain producing either 181 horsepower or 240 horsepower, depending on the battery capacity. These specifications may differ for other markets.
The BZ3 will be built on Toyota’s e-TNGA platform that also underpins the BZ4X and associated Subaru Solterra and Lexus RZ. Toyota developed this platform specifically for electric vehicles with the capability to spawn different types of EVs.
Availability
Expect the new Toyota EV to hit the dealerships in China anytime next year. It is not clear if it will come to the UAE, but we hope to see it by the end of next year or early 2024.
The BZ family is growing and so far, we have seen seven confirmed members. The Japanese automaker aims to add 15 electric vehicles to its vehicle range by 2025.
