The third-generation BMW X1 is confirmed for most parts of the world including the USA. However, its all-electric version will be available only in select countries. Of course, the European countries will be able to enjoy the first-ever iX1. The automaker’s first all-wheel-drive EV in the compact segment will hit the showrooms in Europe this October.

Design

The German automaker is offering the iX1 in the xDrive30 guide only for now. The all-electric model distinguishes itself from its petrol-powered version through a somewhat modified face. If you have seen the X1, you can easily find the iX1 different because of the blue accents around the kidney grilles and the altered lower part of the bumper. We can also find the blue accents on the side profile under the doors in addition to the backside of the rear bumper. Overall, the iX1 is pretty similar to its petrol-powered X1 sibling.

Powertrain

What matters most for environment-conscious buyers is the powertrain. The all-new iX1 replaces the petrol engine with a fully electric powertrain consisting of two electric motors – one installed at each axle. The EV powertrain creates a total output of 313 horsepower (230 kilowatts) and 364 pound-feet (494 Newton-meters). It means the EV version of the X1 is the most powerful in the range.

The company pledges “supreme traction and directional stability,” courtesy of its all-wheel-drive system. The estimated 0 to 62 miles per hour (0-100 kilometers per hour) acceleration time is 5.7 seconds.

Battery

BMW has fixed a 64.7 kWh battery pack inside the floor, which has adequate juice to deliver between 256 miles (413 km) and 272 miles (438 km) between charges. This battery is capable of charging at a very high speed. The BMW’s new charging tech comes with new software, also accessible in the BMW i7, which supports DC charging at up to 130 kW. The automaker claims 70 per cent charge in only 29 minutes.

Those interested in AC charging will be able to use single- and three-phase electricity at a maximum of 22 kW. Please keep in mind that all power outputs performance, range, and charging numbers are not official. These figures are according to the car’s present stage of development, so they may vary for the production version.

What’s confirmed though is a complimentary 12-month subscription for Europe’s IONITY charging system. We also cannot tell if we will have the iX1 at showrooms in the UAE. We will let you know if BMW decides to sell it in the Gulf countries.
