Mercedes debuted the EQE sedan at the IAA Show in Munich last year and now the brand has unveiled this mass-market EV at a private Iftar in Abu Dhabi at Emirates Motor Company’s new store.

The 2023 Mercedes-Benz EQE 350 sits below the EQS and appears similar to its big brother. However, it is slightly shorter at 196.6 inches (4,934 millimeters) in length compared to the EQS’ 207.0-inch (5,265-mm). Similarly, the EQE’s wheelbase of 126.5 inches (3,210 mm) is more compact compared to the EQS’s 122.9 (3,122 mm).

Exterior

On the outside, the EQE differs from its bigger counterpart with a larger front grille, sharper headlights with exclusive LED accents, and various wheel styles comprising 19- and 20-inch aero choices.

Mercedes has put extensive emphasis on the aerodynamic efficiency and it is evident from the sedan’s drag coefficient of 0.20, which makes it the world’s most aerodynamic vehicle together with the EQS.  

Powertrain

The powertrain consists of a 90.6-kilowatt-hour battery pack and a 215.0-kilowatt electric motor fixed at the rear axle generating 288 horsepower (215 kilowatts) and 391 pound-feet (530 newton-meters). While rear-wheel-drive is standard, buyers can also opt for 4Matic all-wheel drive, which adds another motor on the front.

The EQE comes with a standard four-link front suspension and multi-link rear and elective rear-wheel steering and Airmatic air suspension with an adaptive damping system.

Range and Charging

The automaker says the EQE EV can cover 671 kilometers between charges, which is an exceptional figure. Charging at a DC fast charger will enable the owners to juice up from 10 to 80 per cent in only 31 minutes.

Interior

Perhaps, the main highlight of the new 2023 EQE EV is its optional Hyperscreen, also accessible in the EQS. Compared to the standard 12.8-inch central touchscreen with a corresponding 12.2-inch digital cluster, the new Mercedes-Benz Hyperscreen is a 56.0-inch curved glass piece.

It starts from the instrument cluster and ends at the passenger-side dash, comprising three displays – a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, a big 17.7-inch central touchscreen display, and a 12.3-inch passenger-side screen. Furthermore, the car has a fingerprint reader for biometric authentication and augmented-reality navigation.

All three displays use the new version of Mercedes-Benz’s MBUX software, with freshly coloured blue-orange icons and an updated arrangement. The three exclusive display styles include Understated, Sporty, Classic along with three distinct modes – Navigation, Assistance, and Service.

The EQE features Comfort seats, while the AMG-Line has sports buckets. Mercedes has used MB-Tex fake leather for the seats, armrests, and pieces of the dashboard as well as offers Energizing Comfort – Mercedes-Benz’s pre-programmed massage and relaxation system.

Safety

Expect the EQE to come equipped with automatic emergency braking, high-beam assist, and Pre-Safe collision awareness plus the optional active lane-keep assist, lane-change assist, blind-spot monitoring, traffic-sign assist, and a Pre-Safe side-impact collision mitigation.

Price and Availability

The new 2023 Mercedes-Benz EQE 350 is an excellent alternative to the bigger EQS with production planned for mid-2022. It should hit the showrooms in the GCC in the third quarter. The pricing details will be announced before the on-sale date.
