About a year ago, the German luxury carmaker, BMW told us that they have no plans to develop the M variant of the 4 Series Gran Coupe. While that was a shock for performance car lovers, they should now be happy to know that Alpina – a subsidiary of BMW – has decided to introduce the 2022 Alpina B4 Gran Coupe. The high-performance model has now shown its face to the public and it simply looks outstanding.

While talking about its looks, perhaps the biggest highlight of the Alpina B4 is its latest 20-inch wheels. Alpina calls them Classic and these are specifically made by the brand. They look stylish and are lightweight as well.

The creator says each wheel is 26.5 pounds (12 kilograms) heavy, minimizing the rotating mass for improved ride quality. Besides the new set of wheels, we find front and rear spoilers complement the overall design of the Gran Coupe.

While the design is functional and gorgeous, you might be keener to know about its power output. And rightly so; it is what matters most for speed lovers. The power comes from a 3.0-litre straight-six engine creating 495 horsepower (364 kilowatts). This horsepower rating allows the B4 Gran Coupe to take the centre position between the standard BMW M3/M4 and the brawnier Competition models.

Alpina has chosen to use an eight-speed automatic transmission to deliver power to the wheels. The 0 to 62 miles per hour (0-100 kilometers) acceleration time is impressive at 3.7 seconds while the maximum speed it can attain is 187 mph (301 kph).

Alpina didn’t only upgrade the engine, they also made several tweaks to the suspension. Picking the Sport Suspension, they went on to alter it and its chassis calibrations. It has allowed the engineers to attain better driving dynamics without giving in the ride quality.

As is the norm, the B4 uses Pirelli P Zero high-performance tires sporting a production code ALP. It signifies the custom nature of the tire, which is exclusively built for the new B4 Gran Coupe. For those residing and driving in cold areas, Alpina suggests sporting the Pirelli Sottozero Series II ALP tires.

The automaker has already opened its order book for the new B4 Gran Coupe with a promise to start deliveries in July 2022. As far as pricing is concerned, we are sure you know it will be more than the regular 4 Series Gran Coupe. The German company has set the price at €91,800 (including 19-percent VAT). This price is approximately $102,000 at the current exchange rates.

We would be happy to welcome the 2022 Alpina B4 Gran Coupe to the UAE. However, there is no confirmation from the automaker yet.
