The Mercedes-AMG division, famous for its bonkers engines, has now started focusing on electric powertrains without altering its familiar formula. Welcome the 2022 Mercedes-AMG EQE, the high-performance model of the standard EQE. When we say high-performance, we really mean it.

Powertrain

The electric sedan is capable of generating up to 677 horsepower (505 kilowatts) using two AMG-modified electric motors. AMG took the standard-issue 4Matic+ all-wheel drive with dual motors and tweaked the adapted windings, a particular inverter, and some other components to boost the power output.

With all the changes, the standard AMG-EQE creates 617 hp (460 kW) and 701 pound-feet (950 Newton-meters) of swift torque. Get the Dynamic Plus package and the performance sedan bumps the power to the aforesaid 677 hp. Meantime, the torque also jumps to 738 lb-feet (1,001 Nm), but the boost will not be available forever.

Performance Figures

The 2022 Mercedes-AMG with Dynamic Plus package is capable of hitting 96 km/h (60 mph) in around 3.2 seconds engaging the Race Start mode and a 90.6-kWh battery. Not interested in the optional package? No worries! The electric car can still hit the 60 mph mark in a quick time at 3.4 seconds and top out at 137 mph. With Dynamic Plus, the top speed is obviously better at 149 mph.

Suspension

Besides engine tweaks, the performance division has also made alterations to the EQE’s four-link front and multilink rear setup. The AMG Ride Control+ system comes with enhanced Wheel carriers, suspension links, and sway bars, while the rear axle carrier uses tougher bearing and lower clearances. Furthermore, the Adaptive adjustable dampers featuring two pressure preventing valves are more detailed than what we find in the standard EQE.

With all the updates plus the AMG Dynamic Select drive modes, the AMG EQE is only about half-inch lower than its standard model. However, the drive modes work excellently to control the car in difficult situations. For instance, the Slippery mode limits the power output to 308 hp (230 kW) for better stability.

Range

With more power, the range obviously decreases. The automaker quotes a short-term WLTP range of 276 to 322 miles, which is a lot less than the 410-mile estimate for the regular EQE. The owners can charge the electric sedan at up to 170 kW charge that can add 112 miles in only just 15 minutes.

Exterior

Speaking of exterior design, the 2022 Mercedes-AMG EQE gets the black-panel grille with vertical bars, AMG emblems, a black front splitter with altered fascia vents, black lower side panels, a rear diffuser, new wheels, and a minor decklid spoiler.

Interior

On the inside, the AMG tweaks include sport seats, a new steering wheel with a flat bottom, optional cabin-covering Hyperscreen, AMG-explicit functions for the MBUX system a well as AMG-special sounds to enhance the driving pleasure.

Mercedes-AMG did not reveal the pricing details but expect a premium over the standard EQE to get your hands on this sports electric sedan.
