After introducing the fourth-generation Sorento in 2020 as a 2021 model, Kia now has unveiled the 2022 Sorento PHEV with a modest range and six luxury seats.

While not much is changed inside and out, a keen eye can see Kia’s new logo on the grille and the steering wheel. For all-electric driving, the 2022 Sorento PHEV gets a 13.8 kWh battery powering a single electric motor mating to a turbocharged 1.6-litre four-cylinder, generating a total of 261 horsepower (195 kilowatts). All-wheel drive with a centre locking differential is part of the deal.

Kia says the Sorento PHEV will offer a 32-mile all-electric range and a combined 79 MPGe rating. The predicted total range is 460 miles.

The automaker also claims the PHEV comes with the most passenger room and second-row legroom of any plug-in hybrid utility vehicle. Another good thing for the PHEV is the best standard features the Sorento offers.

Expect the best driver-assist and safety features along with a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster and a 10.25-inch centre touchscreen display, and standard Syntex synthetic leather seats.

Pricing details aren’t revealed yet, but we know the 2022 Sorento PHEV will be available from the third quarter of this year.
