While testing the next-generation Tundra, Toyota has always made sure to hide the truck’s rear suspension system. It made us believe that the 2022 Tundra will come with a new suspension setup replacing the previous leaf springs.
The automaker now has released some pictures of the new off-road-oriented TRD Pro’s front and rear suspension systems, and we see it has coil springs at the back.
The previous-generation truck has been using solid rear axle with leaf springs. The 2022 Tundra ditches that to employ coil springs at the back and control arms at the front axle as usual.
For those wanting to know the difference between the two suspension setups, the leaf springs let you load more while the coil springs offer a better ride.
RAM is the one company using coil springs on its half-ton models for the last 12 years. On the other hand, the Ford F-150 and the Chevy Silverado use leaf-springs at the back of their trucks offering max payloads of 3325 and 2280 pounds, respectively. The Ram 1500 comes with a payload of up to 2320 pounds.
Regarding the 2022 Tundra TRD Pro, it will boast a raised suspension using Fox dampers and a red-painted anti-roll bar. Moreover, this model will feature TRD front skid plate as well as Falken Wildpeak all-terrain tires sized 285/65.
