Audi has unveiled the 2022 RS3 boasting a turbo inline-five mill and torque vectoring Quattro all-wheel-drive, available in both five-door Sportback and four-door sedan. However, American as well as some other markets will only get it in the sedan body style.
Audi has updated the design of both the body styles, featuring on the front are gloss black surround, air intakes in the bumper, an LED headlight signature, slit-like vents in front of the door shut line, and box-style flares above the wheels.
The rear gets more assertive side skirts, a vented rear bumper including the similar hexagonal mesh as on the front bumper, and a delicate roof spoiler on the Sportback or decklid spoiler on the sedan. Furthermore, the RS3 features LED taillights and Audi RS–signature dual oval exhaust outlets.
Those who like to add a little more nicety can pay to add the Alu-Optic trim package. It highlights the front splitter, rear diffuser, bumpers, and side skirts with matte silver trim. On the other hand, the carbon fibre trim package emphasizes sportiness.
The 2022 RS3 encompasses a standard 12.3-inch Audi Virtual Cockpit gauge cluster and a 10.1-inch infotainment display using MIB3. Other salient features include an elective head-up display, standard carbon fibre trim, “RS Runway” or bar graph modes for the tachometer, and elective RS-signature honeycomb seat quilting with red, black, or green contrast stitching.
Audi says the 2022 RS3 delivers the quickest acceleration in its segment thanks partially to its turbocharged 2.5-litre inline-five good for 394 horsepower (294 kilowatts) and 369 pound-feet (500 newton-meters). The US-bound RS3 is slightly more powerful, rated at 401 hp that is 7 hp more than the European RS3. The torque is also up by 15. The engine mates to a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission that powers all the wheels through Quattro all-wheel drive and RS Torque Splitter.
Besides, Audi has added a new drive mode, RS Torque Rear that is rear-wheel-drive focused for drifts. Another new for the 2022 RS3 is RS Performance mode for a more balanced drive.
The sport suspension with shock absorbers and valving is standard while an adaptive suspension is available with active dampers. In addition, Audi has lowered the 2022 RS3 by 1.0 inches (25 millimetres) compared to the A3. The sporty Audi also gets a new set of standard steel brakes with six-piston front callipers. A set of larger ceramic front brakes and steel rear brakes are elective.
Audi says, the new 2022 RS3 can hit 100 kilometres an hour (62 miles per hour) in only 3.8 and tops out at 155 mph (250 km/h) or 174 mph (280 km/h) with a performance package.
The 2022 RS3 will hit the roads in Europe next month costing at least €60,000 for the Sportback and €62,000 for the sedan – US$70,832 and US$73,193. However, in the US the prices will be different with no VAT. Expect the 2022 RS3 to start at around US$61,000 afore options.
