Volkswagen USA has released the spec sheets and the pricing information for the 2022 Golf GT and Golf R. Both the hot hatches will hit the US roads in the last quarter of this year.

Interestingly, the powertrain description looks almost similar to European variants. The 2022 Golf GTI carries a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder generating 241 horsepower (180 kilowatts) and 273 pound-feet (370 Newton-meters). The two transmission choices are a six-speed manual and a seven-speed dual-clutch.

On the other hand, the 2022 Golf R houses a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder good for 315 hp (235 kW) and 295 lb-ft (400 Nm) when paired with DSG or 280 lb-ft (380 Nm) with the six-speed manual. The specs here slightly vary compared to the European model, delivering 310 lb-ft (420 Nm) of torque. The reason is the fuel quality variation in the two countries.

Coming to the exterior paint options, the 2022 Golf GTI comes in Oryx White Pearl, Moonstone Gray, Kings Red Metallic, Atlantic Blue Metallic, Reflex Silver Metallic, and Deep Black Pearl. The Pomelo Yellow Metallic paint is exclusive to the Autobahn variant. The Golf R can sport Lapiz Blue Metallic, Pure White, or Deep Black Pearl exterior color.

The entry-level trim of the GTI costs $29,545 (excluding a $995 destination charge) with a six-speed manual or $30,345 with a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission. The standard features include LED illumination for the headlights and foglights. On the inside, we find a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster and an 8.25-inch infotainment display. The front seats and steering wheel both have the heating capability.

A step up on the ladder is the SE grade starting at $34,295 for the manual and $35,095 for the DSG. It comes with a sunroof, adaptive headlights, and active cornering for the foglights. Inside, the infotainment screen is bigger at 10.0 inches with navigation capability and a nine-speaker Harman/Kardon stereo system. For $1,225, customers can add leather seats with ventilation and enjoy power adjustment and add 18-inch gloss black wheels for another $395.

The 2022 Golf GTI Autobahn goes for $37,995 (manual) or $38,795 (DSG). Being the range-topping model, it has better features such as adaptive dampers and 19-inch wheels with summer performance tires. The interior too is more upscale thanks to the ventilated front seats with Vienna leather upholstery, 12-way power adjustment for the driver, three-zone automatic climate control with rear-seat controls, and a head-up display.

In the end, we have the all-wheel-drive Golf R, which comes in only one variant. It is priced at $43,645 for the manual and $44,445 for the DSG. A few salient features of this model encompass adaptive dampers, 14-inch drilled brake rotors with blue calipers, a wing at the rear of the roof, and 19-inch wheels.

As we get in, we find a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster, a 10-inch infotainment display with navigation, a head-up display, a sunroof, and Nappa leather-upholstered seats with heating for the front and rear.
