An ambitious American entrepreneur named Jeff Halverson has announced his company will build five examples of the AMG Vision Gran Turismo concept that was presented at the Los Angeles Motor Show late last month.

Based on the outgoing SLS, the AMG Vision Gran Turismo will be fitted with a carbon fiber body that is expected to lower the car’s weight by about 200 pounds. The concept’s 300SL-inspired exterior styling cues, bespoke wheels designed by ADV.1 and chrome paint job will be carried over to the production car.

Interior pictures are not available but an ad on luxury classifieds site James Edition reveals the cockpit will differ slightly from the one found in the SLS and be built to each buyer’s individual specifications.

The AMG Vision Gran Turismo will be identical to the SLS under the hood, meaning that it will be powered by a 6.3-liter V8 engine that will send 591 horsepower to the rear wheels via a seven-speed transmission. The sprint from zero to 100 kmph is expected to take less than 3.7 seconds.

Halverson claims the first example has already been spoken for by an unnamed collector but the other four are still up for grabs. When all is said and done, two examples will reside in the Middle East, two will live in Europe and the last one will be registered in the United States. Each example costs $1.5 million before taxes and shipping are factored in.

Mercedes is not believed to be involved in bringing the virtual concept to life and it has not commented on the project.
