Volkswagen, in a celebratory mood after 10 years of Touareg SUV production, has decided to commemorate the milestone by creating a special, limited-production model.
Known as the Touareg X, it builds on the Touareg TDI Lux trim level with a host of unique aesthetic touches. Distinguishing exterior features include 19-inch “Moab” aluminum-alloy wheels, Moonlight Blue Pearl paint, LED taillights and model-specific badging.
Cabin embellishments consist of Engineered Ebony Wood accents, Black Anthracite Vienna leather upholstery with a matching black headliner, aluminum door sill scuffplates with front illumination, aluminum-appearance pedal covers and ambient lighting.
No changes have been made in the engine compartment, meaning the Touareg X uses the same 3.0-liter turbodiesel V6 as standard Touareg TDI models. The oil-burning mill pairs with an eight-speed automatic transmission and produces 240 horsepower along with 406 lb-ft of torque. Volkwagen’s 4MOTION all-wheel-drive system is of course fitted as standard.
In its decade on the market, 700,000 examples of the Touareg have been sold worldwide, including 121,385 SUVs in the United States.
Pricing for the Touareg X will start at $56,170; just 1,000 examples will be built.
