Mazda is another automaker that has announced to go carbon neutral by 2050. However, that will require lots of efforts and investments, as the company has to ditch their ICEs slowly and blend in electrified models.
Plans are in progress to introduce five hybrids, five plug-in hybrids, and three all-electric vehicles by 2025. These models will be available in Japan, Europe, the United States, China, and the ASEAN (Association of Southeast Asian Nations) countries. Mild-hybrid powertrains are already available.
Mazda has developed its own architecture for electric cars and calls it SKYACTIV EV Scalable Architecture. The first offering, featuring this platform, will come in 2025 and later will spawn vehicles of different sizes and body styles. Furthermore, Mazda will revive its rotary engine as a range extender.
Apart from shifting to electrification, the Japanese automaker is also busy with its innovative autonomous driving system known as the “Mazda Co-Pilot Concept.” It will be available from next year. The more advanced version of this system will actively check the driver’s behaviour and trigger different systems if he/she is unable to control the vehicle. The system can apply brakes on its own and call the ambulance as well.
