Volkswagen recently introduced a new entry-level crossover Taos, and now they have revealed the EPA-estimated fuel efficiency figures. The FWD model will deliver 28 miles per gallon in the city, 36 mpg on the highway, and 31 mpg combined. The all-wheel-drive will obviously be a little slower with 25 mpg city, 32 mpg highway, and 28 mpg combined.
The 2022 Volkswagen Taos boasts just one mill, i.e. a 1.5-liter turbocharged four-cylinder generating 158 horsepower (118 kilowatts) and 184 pound-feet (250 Newton-meters) of torque. The FWD variants mate to an eight-speed automatic, while the all-wheel-drive versions pair with a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission.
The Taos comes equipped with an 8.0-inch Volkswagen Digital Cockpit display and a 6.5-inch infotainment system. The mid-level SE gets an 8.0 inches infotainment display, while the top-of-the-line SEL comes standard with a 10.25-inch Digital Cockpit Pro display.
The forward collision warning with autonomous braking, active blind-spot monitoring, lane-keeping assist, and adaptive cruise control are standard on the SEL, as well as automatic high beams and road sign recognition. However, all these features are optional for the entry-level S and mid-level SE.
The Taos is built on VW’s MQB platform. It is 175.8 inches long with a 105.9-in wheelbase. Owners get 28.1 cubic feet of cargo space behind the seats and 99.5 cubic feet of passenger volume.
The 2022 Volkswagen Taos will hit the roads in June wearing an initial price tag of $22,995 (excluding destination) or $25,040 for an all-wheel-drive model. The mid-level SE starts at $27,245 with front-drive and $28,695 with all-wheel drive. The fully-loaded SEL will set customers back $31,490 for front-wheel drive and $33,045 for all-wheel drive.
